Munich, Germany: Hour 5 of 24skate #10: The four beer garden skate
text

Hello skaters and friends around the world,

a new 24skate is always a new opportunity to skatexplore Munich. This time I chose a route which touches four beer gardens within 4 kilometers. They are marked with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, in the map above. I will explain later what the "H" stands for.

We took the underground

and a bus to our starting point, close to beergarden 1:

My daughter and I skated northbound through the English Garden.

After a long period of rain this was one of the first really nice summer days. It was so warm, that the police horses quenched their thirst in a small stream. I was a bit too slow to get my camera ready before they were ready.

This is the Kleinhesseloher Lake within the English Garden. Beer garden number 2 is located at its shore, just a few steps from where this picture was taken.
text

Here is a proof that the beer garden is not far.
text

But we kept focussed. This is the 24skate, not the 24drink.
text

Grass high, skate high.
text

This is not a beer puddle.
text

But this is a beer garden, number 4, "Aumeister".

Green skating.

Where is sun, there is shadow.

We - again - passed the entrance to beergarden 3, "Hirschau". This time we took a photo.

Even greener skating.

Back at the starting beer garden 1, named "Chinese Tower". The template for this tower was a pagoda in Xiangshan park in Beijing. The original one was built almost 225 years ago, burnt down a few times - also in World War II -, but was reconstructed again and again in identical shape. This version is from 1952. The skater in front of it is a bit younger. On summer weekends a brass band is playing on the first floor of the tower to enjoy the 7.000 guests of the beer garden, which is the second largest of Munich.
text

We had lunch in the beer garden and refreshed ourselves - don't drink and skate - with a "Spezi" (half Coke, half orangeade). From there it is just a few steps to the "Monopteros" on top of a tiny artificial hill.
text

This is the base of the "Monopteros", which is a round temple, erected in 1836. It stands on a 15m high fundament, which is hidden by the hill.
text

The "Monopteros" itself is about 16 meters high.
text

From the "Monopteros" you have a nice view to one of the biggest meadows of Munich. The locals use it for any kind of relaxation, especially on a nice-weather-weekend.
text

You can also see a nice panorama of downtown Munich with its church towers. Sometimes the view is obstructed by some natives in good mood...
text

... and proud to be a 24skater.
text

We contined towards the southern end of the English Garden. Here is short look back to the "Monopteros".
text

Just a few tens of meters away from this waterfall you can watch surfers trying to ride an endless wave.
text

Finally we arrived in the "Hofgarten", a baroque park in the heart of Munich. This is the place marked by the "H" in the map at the top of this page.
text

In the middle of the "Hofgarten" there is another temple, the Diana Temple. And - I didn't knew that before - obviously local dance enthousiast use the nice acoustic and scenery as joyful environment for their enchanting hobby. text

I hope you enjoyed the tour. If you like, we can do a similar one. 24skaters are always welcome!

Best regards

Clemens
