Munich, Germany: Hours 18 and 19 of 24skate #17
Dear skaters and friends around the world,
for me, 2020 was the year with the least skating hours since a long time. Because of Covid-19. For the same reason the Octoberfest 2020
was cancelled, so I could use its venue, the "Theresienwiese" as 24skating area, although I postponed the 24skate from June to October.
The Theresienwiese was used as public recreation area this year. Even a beach with palms was set up, but it was removed after the first cold nights
September. And a cold night it was, before this 24skate Sunday ... . So I wear a bonnet under my helmet and two long sleeve ski shirts under
my 24skate jersey.

Behind me you see part of the banner "Fit in the park" where people could have
open air gymnastics. But on this grey day after a rainy night no one was there except the lonely 24skater and some bikers.
Tarmac was still mainly wet, but it had stopped raining when I arrived a the place.

A part of the area is cordoned off for a Covid drive-in test facility.

"Mother Bavaria" (the bronze lady behind me) waved the starter's flag and off I went.
I was astonished how much the wetness of the track slowed me down compared
to my last training, but I couldn't help. At least I was able to keep the pace constant lap by lap. After the first hour my GPS watch indicated 23,6 kilometers
and I realized that I could use a part of the next hour to complete a marathon, even with reduced effort. It worked out and shortly before the second hour
ended I could enjoy a well deserved rest in one of the do-it-yourself beach chairs which one could cobble together here in the summer. A perfect moment
for a stretch-your-legs-break: The sun just unpacked its first rays of the day!

I was lucky, because in the afternoon all beach chairs would have already been auctioned off.
And I was lucky that the 24skate was still alive and kicking skating.
A big thanks to everybody!
Best regards

Clemens
